Dr. Amira Shaheen

Dr. Amira Shaheen, an epidemiologist from Palestine, works on improving the response of the health care system to gender based violence (GBV), particularly focusing on improving identification and referral of victims by health care providers. In 2009, Dr Shaheen worked as a research assistant at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM), after obtaining a PhD in epidemiology and population health from the LSHTM. In 2011, Dr. Shaheen started working at An-Najah National University (ANU) as an Assistant Prof. of epidemiology and population health, teaching at both undergraduate and Master’s levels. Dr. Shaheen’s research interests are mainly specific to women’s health, children’s health, injuries, violence, environmental health, and mental health. Her research has appeared in many leading international journals. Dr Amira is a member of the research ethical committee at ANU as well as several scientific communities, including: Child Healthcare Information For All (CHIFA) and the International Epidemiological Association (IEA).
